Sea Ranch is located about 100 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The drive to it winds through beautiful hilly country with wide open pastures, along sandy beaches and steep cliffs where the land meets the ocean. I would recommend to add two days to your vacation; one to explore the unspoiled nature of Point Reyes National Seashore, the other to visit some of Sonoma County's well known wineries in Dry Creek Valley and Valley of the Moon, to taste and to take with you from the bounty which this beautiful region has to offer.

The most direct drive from San Francisco to Sea Ranch follows Highway 101 across the Golden Gate Bridge to just past Petaluma. At the Penngrove exit head west towards Valley Ford and Bodega Bay. From there Highway 1 parallels the coast to Sea Ranch and beyond. Fort Ross speaks of the Russian hunting expedition into California.

Alternatively, take Lucas Valley Road, past San Rafael, and head towards Point Reyes Station. Olema to the South is the gateway to the Park Headquarter and Limantour Beach of Point Reyes National Seashore. The road through Inverness takes you past lonely cow ranches to the light house on the edge of a steep cliff. Stay the night in Olema or Point Reyes Station. If you have more time, then approach Pt. Reyes Station via Hwy.1 to Stinson Beach and include Muir Woods' Redwood grove.

On your return from Sea Ranch take winding Skaggs Springs Road, past Lake Sonoma to the wine regions of Dry Creek Valley. In Santa Rosa turn east on Hwy.12 towards the Valley of the Moon with its many wineries. Stay the night in Sonoma. There are more wineries before you come to Hwy.37, but stay safe and just sample the food.

And for sure, spend a few days in San Francisco, the beautiful and fascinating City by the Bay.
